Double Double - Meet Recap

May 6, 2008

Hey Guys! That was an excellent meet for all swimmers!
It was so good to see all the young swimmers get back up on the blocks after such a long competition break.
I was very pleased to see everyone get up and attack each and every race.
We also had 3 new 'B' qualifiers in the 400 free; Nikola Srnic, Tyler Wells and Kathyrn Legaspi. Way to go guys!!
It’s great to see all that hard work in practice paying off! Keep up the awesome work guys!

Now that we are getting into the long coarse season, it’s very important to keep working hard and having fun!
Let's finish off the season with a BANG! And show all our competitors what OSC is made of!

Great work Olympian Way!!!!!

Group Update

April 25, 2008

Alright Alright!

Here we are. How fast 4 months has passed us by. As most of you all know, I will be leaving OSC at the beginning of May due to a previous coaching commitment. I have had an absolute blast coaching these fantastic kids. My official last day will be Saturday, May 3, although I will do everything I can to stay involved with this group until the end of the season. Hopefully I will be able to stop by to see everyone. Lindsay Morton will be taking over for the OW1 group.

I wish everyone the best as my time coaching with OSC this year has been nothing short of AWESOME!

Age Group Provincials - Meet Report

March 20, 2008

Provincials had three Fountain Park OW's competing. Josef Legaspi swam superbly on Saturday and Sunday evenings on the 10 and Under Relays helping the boys capture Bronze in both the Medley and Free.
Julia Marchand stepped up on Sunday night to swim with the 10 and Under Girls Free Relay swimming a blazing 38.8 split.
Way to Go Julia and Josef!

Freddy Kamminga had an absolutely superb weekend of racing. Friday he crushed his old best time in 200 Back by 33 seconds finishing at 3:22, as well as swimming a best time in the 400 Free. Saturday Fred shaved off 4 seconds in his 50 Fly in the morning, and then another 2 in finals finishing at 38.7. He also crushed his old 100 Back time by 10 seconds. Sunday was another fine day of racing. Fred took off a total of 11 seconds in his 100 Fly finishing at 1:30 in finals. Finally, Fred stepped up on the Boys free relay posting a speedy 34.90 50 Free. Every race he swam, Fred posted the best time for that race of his life. This can be attributed to his improvement in practice over the past three weeks.
Keep it up Kaptain Kamminga!

It should be noted that Kyle, Noah, Fred, and Josef are now the reigning OSC Club Record Holders for the 4x50 Free Relay for 10 and Under Boys. Awesome!

If you haven't returned your Meet Sign-up Forms to the Office, get them in ASAP!

Swimmer of the Months Update

March 17, 2008

Swimmer of the Month Updates

As most everyone has noticed, there have not been Swimmers of the Month named for the Fountain Park OW groups for several months now. Chantelle and I had made the decision to get to know all of our swimmers before handing these out. So, we will award 3 Swimmers of the Month, but they will be "Swimmers of the Months that Chantelle and Ewen Have Been Coaching". The criteria from the 3 awards from the past 3 months shall stay the same, but the period of time that will be evaluated will be the 2 months that Chantelle and myself have been coaching. Got it? Good.

The Awards are listed on the SOM February page.

Long Course Season Fast Approaching

March 13, 2008

Hey Hey Hey!

The OSC Time Trial last weekend was a huge success. Way to Go everyone! The end of the short course season is closing in fast. The Fountain Park OW groups have 3 swimmers attending the Alberta Age Group Provincials Meet. Freddy Kamminga will be competing in individual events and relays and Josef Legaspi and Hayley Basterash have been called upon to swim on relays. So, it pays off to swim fast on relays because you might get the chance to be the 4th member on a relay team even if you haven't qualified for a meet. Swim Fast!
Now, long course season is upon us. Saturday I handed out the meet signup forms so if you missed it, make sure you get one or else your child might not get put in meets.
I have also been informed that Swimmers of the Month have not been named for the last 3 months, so Swimmers of the Month for December, January, and February will be handed out soon.

What You can do to Maximize your Swimmer's Swimming:
1. Come to Practice. You can't learn swimming skills by not being at the pool. Be on time as best you can.
2. Come to meets. As many as possible. The only way to learn to race is by RACING.

Good Luck in the upcoming long course season everyone!

Age Group Trials - Meet Report

February 26, 2008

Hey everybody!

This past weekend we had three OW girls competing at Age Group Trials. Hayley Basterash, Julia Marchand, and Megan Grosenbacher represented OSC with some fantastic swims and grabbing tons of best times in the process. Hayley made finals in 50 breast, 200 breast, and 400 free. Megan finalled in 200 breast and 200 IM, and Julia finalled in 100 Fly. Hayley and Julia also helped the 10 and Under girls relay team to a Gold Medal in the 4x50 free relay, and Megan swam the breaststroke on the 4x50 medley relay which also captured the Gold.
These three ladies have jumped to another level of racing after this weekend and learned tons about "heats and finals" swim meets as well.

Great Job at Trials this past weekend girls!

There will be an OSC Time Trial swim meet this coming Saturday, March 1st for anyone who wants to qualify for Provincials or have another opportunity to race. More information will be posted for this.

Keep up the great swimming everyone!

Pool Report

January 19, 2008

Finally, we have updated the website. As you may already know, the Fountain Park OW groups have undergone a coaching change that will continue from now through April. Madison will then be back to coach the final months of the swim season. I will be coaching the OW1 group from 4-5, and Chantelle Dubrule will coach the OW2 and OW3 from 5-6 and 6-7, respectively. Both of us will coach Saturday mornings, and both of us will try to be present at all meets. Chantelle and I have over 10 years each of swimming experience, and we are hoping to pass our knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport onto future generations.

We will be posting updates and notices regularly to help keep you and your swimmers informed. We also will post monthly calendars with swim meets and any practice changes. Other information, such as the Swimmer of the Month will also be posted here. An updated calendar for January has also been posted today.

The best way to contact us would be at the pool, either before or after workout, or by email. My email address is ewen_lavoie@hotmail.com and Chantelle’s is chantelle.dubrule@lafarge-na.com. Please check out the Leduc Invitational update to see warm-up times, as well as what sessions your swimmer will be racing in. Have a look at the new monthly calendars as well.

Penguin Novice Series #1 - Highlights

November 16, 2007

Raine- very good job on your first swim meet ever! Your technique is looking great and your 50 back blew everyone out of the water!
Daniel- you took almost 20 seconds off your 50 fly!! way to go!
Natalie- very good swims in the breastroke but I would have to say the highlight was your 50 fly! You beat your time by 7 seconds and it looked great!
Sanjana-I was very impressed by your racing, especially in your 100 IM! I like to see the racing to the wall when it's a close race. Way to go!
Daniella-Your 200 IM you beat your time by 6 seconds so now you are even closer to getting your qualifying time! Keep up the hard work and I know it will pay off! And your double breathing on your fly looks fantastic!
Alex- You 100 IM was an amazing swim! the race was so exciting to watch and your technique is really coming along. Good job!
Mycheala-You are the queen of the walls!! All of your walls were fast with almost perfect streamlines! Awesome!
Brittany- I think you were the only one to do all of your breastroke underwater pullouts, so way to go!! They are
looking great!

OW Swimmers & Parents

October 16, 2007

Hello OW Swimmers and Parents,

I just wanted to let you know about a change to next Saturday morning practice, it will be from 10-12pm.

As everyone is aware, the first 10 & Under Series swim meet is on Sunday, October 21, 2007 and Kevin, Maciek and I have decided to run a "practice swim meet" during Saturday's workout. This will give everyone an opportunity to be comfortable with the swim meet environment.

There will be 3 groups participating, JAG, OW and JOW and we ask everyone to be there from 10-12pm.
If anyone is unable to make it, please inform me prior to Saturday.

Thanks,
Madison
