OSC Has a Blast in Kelowna with some FAST swims!
Over Mother's Day weekend, 23 OSC swimmers took the short flight over the Rockies to race at the annual Persist Oil & Gas Invitational hosted by the Kelowna Aquajets Swim Club. This meet is a standard meet on our meet calendar now and swimmers attend because of the fast racing but also the great memories and fun to be had as a team.
Leading off the racing is another TWO club records for Tao So! This 12 year old swimmer is cruising through the record board this season and adding to his tally. This weekend Tao broke the record in the Boys 11-12 200IM with a time of 2:27.24 on day 1 of the meet. The next day he followed that up with a record in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:11.83 in finals after breaking it in prelims just a few hours earlier. Congratulations Tao on an amazing season so far!
OSC also had a total of 12 podium finishes as they raced with some of the fastest swimmers from BC and Alberta! OSC coaches are extremely proud of the following swimmers for achieving podium places this weekend:
Tao So - 3 Gold, 1 Silver
Evan Brake - 1 Silver, 2 Bronze
Mackenna Riou - 2 Bronze
Kendall Zaboroski - 1 Silver, 1 Bronze
Tatiana Cockwill - 1 Silver
Finally to top off the weekend and to fill some time the swimmers celebrated Sunday evening with a fun (and windy) pizza party at the beach to unwind from the weekend and enjoy some Kelowna tourist offerings. Then on Monday before departing for home again they stopped by the Kangaroo Creek Farm for some interactions with exotic animals from “down under” and a fun team bonding adventure!
A massive thank you to our amazing chaperone team of Samar, Winnie, Jon and Jimmy who kept the kids well fed, entertained and transporting back and forth all weekend. The success of OSC is more than racing, it is the endless hours of work from our volunteers on big weekends such as these!
