This past weekend 35 swimmers represented OSC at Provincial Trials, the first stage of provincial heats and finals racing and a last chance qualifying event for the Swim Alberta Provincial Championships which makes it one of the fastest meets in the province that only qualified swimmers can participate, hosted by Swim Alberta and Edmonton Keyano Swim Club at Kinsmen Sports Centre this year.
Keep in mind that swimmers racing at Trials can qualify for Champs by winning an event or achieving 2 Champs time standards
Once again, our swimmers went above and beyond with their performances, getting personal best times, qualifying for Champs and winning podiums, making OSC well-represented. Some of the highlights are as follows:
Alex Kaulbach, by dropping 9 seconds in his 200 back not only touched the wall first and got his ticket to Champs but also got his first Champs time. He also won his 100 back and got his second Champs time and made his trip to Calgary sweeter.
Marlow Rose-Toth who already had a Champs time got his second one in 200 Fly with a time of 2:26.90 and put that gold medal around his head by finishing first.
Tanner Pratt won her 200 Fly both in prelims and finals, dropping more than 5 seconds with an impressive time of 2:40.04 and punched in her ticket to Champs next weekend.
Makena McGeough who just aged up got her first Champs time in her new age group (13-14) in 200 Breast with a time of 2:58.80.
Marise Snyman got her first Champs time swimming a 37.32 in 50 Breast prelims and dropping more time in the finals, winning Silver with a time of 36.99
Matteo Lanni got his first Champs in 50 free prelims (28.73) and finished Third in finals with a time of 28.65, and his second Champs was only 30 minutes after his 50 free, where he got a 33.55 in 50 back.
Jamie de Kock in 100 backstroke, after dropping 5 seconds and swimming a 1:12.67 in the morning and 1:12.55 in the afternoon not only won a Bronze medal, but also got his first Champs time.
Taylor Bitea got her first Champs time in 400 IM, winning a Silver with a time of 5:56.69 after a 25-second drop. On the second day, She won the Gold medal in 200 fly, punched in her Champs ticket with a time of 2:58.04
Claire Purves, shaved off 10 seconds in her 100 breast to swim a 1:25.69 in prelims and got her first Champs time and won the Silver in the finals. Followed by a 13-second drop in 200 breast to get her second Champs and secure a spot in Calgary next weekend.
Seville Rockwell on the last event of the last day touched 4th in the prelims with a 1:22.58, and stealing Gold from her opponents in the finals with a time of 1:19.25, punched in the ticket to Champs.
Katherine Li got a 5 seconds personal best with a time of 3:14.73 in her 200 breast prelims, and swam a 3:07.32 in the finals, shaving off another 7 seconds to get her first Champs time in 12&U age category.
Boys 13&U Medley Relay with Jamie de Kock (back), Albert Li (breast), Samuel Leyland (fly) and Matteo Lanni (free) touched the wall third and won the Bronze medal with a time of 2:13.35!
